2. Trim the Slide

Less is more when designing slides. In most presentations that I work on when teaching PowerPoint, I remove unneeded elements. In this case, I clicked on and deleted the circles with icons. They feel somewhat redundant, so I simply clicked and deleted them.

Philosophically, I like slide PPTs with fewer elements. I find that audiences can focus more easily when there are fewer objects.

More importantly, I want to make room for bullet points. More on that below.

3. Re-Color to Match Your Brand

There are built-in color schemes on every slide PPT. But you might want to match these premium PowerPoint templates to your color palette.

In our case, let's recolor the triangles. Click on the shapes, then go to the Format > Shape Fill drop-down. Choose a new color from the options (or More Fill Colors) and watch your shapes transform. Just repeat this process with any shape you want to recolor.

4. Adjust Slide Master Elements

Sometimes, you'll click on objects on a slide PPT, but PowerPoint won't let you select them. Why is this?

This is because these elements are on the Slide Master, a layer that sits below the slide and controls many slides.

In our example, which includes the company name (lower right corner) and the color swatch in the upper right corner. Go to the View > Slide Master menu, and then you can edit both of these.

5. Add Bullet Points

To round out our slide, I'll make two more changes:

1. I'll shift the text boxes from beneath the SWOT triangles to above them.
2. I'll type bulleted lists and to show key points for each of the four pillars.

Another very useful tip is to keep your presentation design as simple as possible. Don't fill your slides with text or many elements. Instead, choose a clean template with a minimalist design and plenty of white space in the slides.
