31. Cool Resume for Graphic Designers

Simplicity can be really elegant—or it can be the perfect framework for your design concept! At the end of the day, the best graphic designer CV is going to be the one that's got an eye for Design Principles. How would you make this design your own?
How about a photo at the top or right of the composition? How about experimenting with color, patterns or printing this on a specialty paper?
How to Customize Your Resume Graphics
Whether you're working with a graphic design CV template or a web designer CV template, the goal is to make an awesome visual impression. So, have you found the perfect designer CV template but aren't sure what to do next?
In this walkthrough, we'll use this graphic designer resume sample from Envato Elements. This one is particularly cool because it comes in so many different formats—Microsoft Word, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop! Handy, right?

We'll jump into Photoshop for this example. If you like, download the template above and follow along. Let's walk through some tips and trips to help get you to the finish line fast:
1. Install the Required Fonts
Make sure you've everything you need to open your design template. This includes any required fonts that may have been used in the design.
If you don't, Photoshop will give you a prompt to help let you know what you're missing. You can resolve the fonts here, install them yourself, or choose an alternative font if you'd prefer to substitute a different one.

2. Use Your Layers Panel
Check out your Layers Panel. Not sure where it is? Go to Window > Layers to open it up.
In the case of this template, and many others, the content has been organized into different layers. This makes it easy to edit and rearrange your content.
Think of Layers as content "layered" on top of each other. So, for example, looking at our Layers Panel below, notice how the different pages are on their own layer. We can easily toggle them on and off and choose whatever we'd like to work with.

3. Edit Text With the Text Tool
Edit the text in your composition using the Text Tool. Find it in the Tools Panel, as highlighted below.
Using the Text Tool is really straightforward. With the Text Tool active, simply click on the text you'd like to edit. The text will give you a visual cue when it's active. Then, edit away!
If you're working in a document with a lot of text, remember to keep an eye on your Layers Panel. Select the text layer in question, and then use your Text Tool.

4. Change the Font of Your Resume
But your desired edits likely won't end there. Let's say you'd like to change the text completely. How do we do that?
Take a look at your Character Panel. Open it by going to Window > Character. In this panel, we can change all kinds of things about our text, like the font itself, the size, the style, and more.
For example, in this case, the name in the layout was changed to be a different font and style.

5. Rearrange Elements in your Design
Want to move an entire element in your design? No problem. Remember to use the Move Tool to easily move parts of your composition.
Not sure how? Again, turn to your Layers Panel. In this example, I chose to move the symbol—or logo—in the design.
I started by selecting the SYMBOL folder in my Layers Panel. Then, I chose the Move Tool. Simply click and drag to move the content. It's that easy!

5 Quick Tips to Make Graphic Design Resumes Better
Having a well-designed graphic design resume template is important. But you shouldn't spend too much time on it. The end goal is to land a job, not just to have the best resume.
If you're looking for essential tips to make the best graphic designer or web designer resume, check out these ideas:
1. Choose the Right Fonts
Typography can make or break your creative graphic designer resume design. As a designer, you must represent yourself well. Choose fonts that'll be interesting, professional, and most importantly, legible. Don't try to reinvent the wheel and use existing font combinations.
Check out Fontjoy or Typewolf to find beautiful font combinations. Or use one of the well-designed graphic or web design resume templates to save yourself time and stress over analyzing what font combination represents you the best.
2. Use White Space

Don't make your resume boring by putting as much info as you can. Make it easy to skim and scan.
People who will be reading your resume are tired of piles of resumes. They don't want to use their mental energy to break down huge chunks of text. Use lots of white space and structure your resume for rapid consumption.
3. Focus on Benefits Over Features
It's tempting to show off your skills and talk about your experience. But remember that people are emotional creatures and very irrational ones. Focus on presenting yourself as a valuable investment. Explain why your services are worth their time and money.
4. Show Off Your Personality

Businesses like to work with interesting people. Don't be shy about showing off your personality and adding something to express yourself.
At the end of the day, you'll be dealing with people, no matter what industry you're in. People with similar interests and passions sync better. That connection adds up to successful communication and project success.
5. Emphasize Your Contact Info
What's the point of getting noticed and forgotten? The main idea of your creative graphic designer resume is to land your next gig.
Make your contact information clear and prominent. Take your job hunt to the next level. Include specific emails or links that you can track so that you'll know that the lead comes from your resume.
Creative Layout Sections to Use in Your Resume
Let's take a look at some of the most important sections you can add to a creative resume. I'll be using the Infographic Professional CV Resume Set - Genial. So, if you like, you can download it and follow along.
1. Skills

Skills are important, even if your main abilities are creative. Having a skills section shows your future employer that you've got the skills for the job. In this section, it would be best to highlight the skills that you're the best in. This section makes it easy to see that you're perfect for the job you're applying for.
2. Education

An education timeline shows your future employer your investment in your field. An education history is especially important if you've got a masters or special degree. Having a timeline highlights any education you went through for your career.
3. Personal Profile

A personal profile emphasizes your contact information and makes it easy to find. This ensures that your future employer will know how to contact you. Giving a prospective employer many ways to contact you makes it more likely that you'll receive a response.
4. Work Experience

Your work experience shows any experience you've got in the field you're applying for. Showing work experience can also fill in any gaps in your resume. If you've got one, be sure to include a link to your portfolio.
5. World Experience

If you're fluent in more than one language or if you've traveled, this section will help you showcase that. Show your future employer that you've worked in more than one country in this section. Let your future employer know that not only are you experienced, but you can adapt to work in other countries.
5 Creative Graphic & Web Design Resume Trends for 2022
Picking the right template and customizing it for each job application helps your resume stand out. It's also important to stay on top of resume trends if you want your resume to look polished and professional. Below, you’ll find five creative graphic and web design resume trends for 2022:
1. Include Your Software Skills
Make it easy for potential employers to see which software you’re proficient in or which programming languages you've got under your belt. Use skill bars to present them in a visually engaging manner.

2. Keep It Down to One Page
One-page resumes are still your best choice when it comes to sending a resume and getting noticed. Make sure your skills, experience, and education fit on one page. Include a separate portfolio page if the job description specifically requires it.
3. Creative Use Of Shapes
Show off your creativity with the creative use of shapes and colors. Use them as a backdrop in the header area or to highlight the column where you typically list skills and contact information.

4. Don’t Shy Away From Color
Resumes used to be black and white. Nowadays, it’s pretty common to see resumes with colored sections or fully colored backgrounds. This is a nice way to stand out among other candidates. So, don’t shy away from using color in your resume.
5. Minimalist Resumes Are Still Popular
Minimalist resumes are still very popular, and with good reason: they make it easy to see all the important information at a glance. Consider keeping it simple and using a minimalist design for your job applications.

If you’re fresh out of school, you’ve probably been told you need to make a resume before you start applying for jobs. Or maybe you came across another term: CV.

Yes, especially if it's requested. Your address and phone number provide a way for the employer can get in touch with you and let you know if you’ve been selected for an interview.

While there’s no law specifically stating that you can’t, this is something you really shouldn’t do, as HR managers can easily spot a duplicated resume. This reduces your chances of getting hired, so it’s better to customize the resume to each job application.
